Our Peace and Justice team leads us in engaging with local, national and international causes and issues, and in striving to fulfil our vision objective of 'reminding ourselves of our Christian concern for the whole world and its problems and our desire to see the values of the kingdom of God at large in society'.
Over recent months we have fully supported Christian Aid's 'Trade Justice' Campaign for fairer world trade rules, culminating in a coach load of Cookham people lobbying the Government in Brighton in September 2004 just prior to the Labour Party Conference.
As part of our church's eco programme our peace and Justice team has challenged everyone in the congregation to adjust their lifestyles to become more environmentally friendly with a 20 point suggestion list.
To help in the re-use of personal posessions the team plans to set up a drop-off facility in Cookham whereby residents can sell unwanted goods on e-bay. A percentage of the value will be retained to contribute to church funds, including support for local charities. The scheme just needs a local volunteer to set up and run this initiative. Does that sound like you? If you're interested in talking about this opportunity or if you would like to be involved with the Peace and Justice team then please get in touch with Chris Harris via the Parish Office.
