The local Amnesty Group has recently taken on the case of Sing Chanthakoummane, a 75-year-old Laotian man who has been detained in Laos for 32 years. The group is seeking his release on humanitarian grounds. To highlight the case there will be a special lunch with a Lao theme – on Sunday 13 May at the Holy Trinity Parish Centre, starting at 1230hrs. Being involved…
We had an excellent Annual Parish Meeting last Sunday and the new PCC is in place and ready to start its work. In order to do all we want to, we need as many people as possible to be involved in our activities. At the back of the church you will find a yellow questionnaire asking which areas in the life of our church you would particularly like to share. Please take one, fill it in, and give it to one of our wardens today.
Christian Aid Week 13 to 19 May
Cookham is working with Christian Aid to make possible a clean, sustainable, accessible and environ-mentally friendly water supply for 60,000 people in the Kedida region of Ethiopia. This year the funds collected house to house in Cookham will be directed to the Cookham-Kedida project.
The EU will add £3 to every £1 donated in the Red Envelope for the Cookham – Kedida project.
Please pick up a pack of envelopes and help our community to make a real difference to the communities of Kedida.
Computer training Elizabeth House
There are a few vacancies Monday to Thursday mornings for our excellent one-2-one training. Whether you are starting from scratch or need to update and polish your skills, you will be welcome, and... there are no exams!
So build up your confidence, meet one of our volunteer tutors - they're really good, and it’s only £15 to become a member. Please call at Elizabeth House or tel. 527621, or speak to Bob West on 520762. Reg Willsher
Clothes for Whitechapel Mission
Whitechapel Mission works with the poor and homeless in London. At the moment in their clothes store there’s a shortage of trainers (particularly sizes 7 - 9), jeans, men's boxer shorts and sleeping bags. And on the food front, porridge is needed. All other cereals are in plentiful supply but no porridge which has become very popular!
The next date for Holy Trinity people staffing the Whitechapel breakfast is Sunday 27 May.
HTC at Scout Fayre
Holy Trinity will have a stall at the Scout Fayre on 16 June. If you have any CDs, LP records, best-selling books (nearly new only) or children's books please either bring to church or leave in the Parish Office for Colin Jackson. All proceeds to the Cookham Kedida project.
Visiting Preacher
We are looking forward very much to welcoming Canon Robert Wright to the Cookhams on Sunday 20 May. Robert is the Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons, Vicar of St Margaret’s Westminster and Sub-Dean of Westminster Abbey. He will be preaching at the 0930hrs Parish Eucharist at Holy Trinity, Cookham and at 1830hrs Choral Evensong at St John the Baptist, Cookham Dean.
Thames Hospicecare Service
At 1830hrs next Sunday we are hosting a Service of Thanksgiving for the work of Thames Hospicecare. Everyone is very welcome to come along.
Churches Together for Christian Aid Week
Come along to a special Service for Christian Aid Week at St Luke’s Church, Maidenhead, 1800hrs Sunday 13 May. An opportunity for Christians of all denominations to get together and lift the work of Christian Aid in prayer and praise. Refreshments served after the Service.
A special day for HTC
We will be celebrating our Patronal Festival on Trinity Sunday 3 June and we are delighted to let you know that Fr Ryan’s brother, Rod Green, will be preaching at our 0930hrs Parish Eucharist. Rod is in his final year of training for the priesthood at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford. We’ll be adding to our celebration with a shared lunch in the Parish Centre on that day. This is for everyone of any age, so please come and join in. We are organising some games for children. In the evening we will have Solemn High Mass at which Fr Anthony will be the principle celebrant. Our visiting preacher at this service will be Fr Philip Warner who is the Vicar of St Magnus the Martyr Church in the City of London.
Thanks for the Christian Aid mention. Did you know that the new CA Week TV advert is on YouTube already? You can view it here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzMzjjVwi8k
Well worth a look.
