Further Information

Following on from one of our speakers at Ladies’ Group, Canon Jane Hedges from Westminster Abbey, the social committee have arranged a visit to  the Abbey on Wednesday 30 September for a Parish Prayer Pilgrimage.   Groups of up to 50 can join a Canon Steward for a pilgrim tour which takes you around the Abbey, hearing about its history and praying in its sacred places.  The tours begin at 6.15 p.m. and end with Compline at 7.15 p.m.

The coach will leave Cookham War Memorial at 16.15; each ticket will be £10 which will include a tip for the driver.  Please could you let Mary Purdie have the coach money ASAP - either direct or leave it in the parish office marked for her attention (cheques should be made payable to PCC Holy Trinity Church)   

'Rendezvous' at Elizabeth House opens 24th Sept

• For people with dementia and their carers, 
• A warm friendly welcome awaits all visitors 
• A cup of tea, a chat, some activities, useful information, advice, literature and sign posting available at no charge 
• An "outreach" branch of the Alzheimer’s' Society, separate from the "normal EH activities."
• Managed by a qualified manager, Susan Forwood, who will be responding to Rose Coop. 
• Open every Thursday afternoon between 15.00 - 17.00 commencing 24th September 
• A valuable community service sponsored and financed by HTC but open to all.

This year the very popular The Sunrise Walk is back! .We are aiming to get at least 750 walkers signed up, and raise £130,000 for the Hospice!  Why not enter a Company Team?  A great way to support Thames Hospice care, achieve a personal challenge and have fun with work colleagues and friends?  To help us get as many ladies signed up as we can, please could you forward this email with the attached e-graphic to all your friends and family and ask them to forward to all their friends and family too!! _{Harvest pledges for the Rendezvous Dementia project}

_{For the next 3 weeks up until the Harvest Festival Service on 11 October 2009 pledge cards for the Rendezvous Dementia Project will be available in a display at the Church entrance. Members of the congregation can complete these cards to pledge their support for the Rendezvous project and can give their contact details if they want to offer specific help. If they are placed in the box these pledges will be blessed at the Harvest Eucharist Service. Please take a moment to take a pledge card and consider what support you can offer this important initiative. _{Old Spectacles wanted for World Vision Overseas}

_{During the month of OCTOBER we are running a campaign to collect as many pairs of unwanted spectacles as possible to be used by World Vision Overseas in developing countries. The glasses need to be in good working order and can be placed in the labeled basket at the back of the church. Please ask friends, family and neighbours also, as every pair will make a huge difference to the quality of someone's life. Spectacle cases will not be needed, thank you.}

_{QUIZ NIGHT TREAT -  Friday 23rd October}

A combination of the finest in Cookham Dean Cuisine and a lively memory contest awaits you at this year's Quiz Night in aid of Elizabeth House - on Friday 23rd October. The fun starts at 7 for 7.30pm at Cookham Dean Village Hall. The food at this annual quiz is now legendary.  There's a licensed bar and, with quizmaster John Sykes, a great evening is in store. Harvest Festival Bring and Share Lunch

The harvest Festival at Holy Trinity is on Sunday 11 October. We felt that it would be a lovely way to celebrate our very bounteous gifts by joining together at a Bring and Share Lunch. This would take place straight after the 11a.m. Service. Please put this date in your diaries and come along.

Please note a couple of upcoming events organised by the local Amnesty International group.  On 9th October they have their annual quiz evening at Pinder Hall - tickets just £10 from Liz Kwantes on 01628 525130 (or email her at liz@kwantes.com).  And on October 29th they are teaming up with the Holy Trinity Peace and Justice Committee to present a talk by an Amnesty speaker on the subject of human dignity and what we can do to support it here and around the world.  More details from Mike Copland on 01628 630375.

Teams of people to assist with the serving of Christmas Lunch to those who are lonely and less fortunate.  All aspects of help are needed. Our External Charity Giving 

The PCC has resolved to account separately for the fund raising which we do for other charities. Our aim has been to raise a minimum of £10,000 this year. It is pleasing to note that by the end of June this figure had reached £4,733. We intend to update readers monthly so it is worth remembering that the Rendezvous Golf Dinner on September 18^th will be part of this and will be reflected in our October update.   Stewardship & Finance Working Group

Special Plea for Whitechapel Mission 

Can you please look in your linen/airing cupboards and see if you have any towels you no longer need?  Hand towel, bath towels, beach towels – it doesn’t matter.  There is a desperate shortage for the men and women who wish to avail themselves of the opportunity to wash/shower at the Centre.  If we all donated one towel there would be a great many happy (and clean!) faces at the Whitechapel Mission! The ongoing need for clean underwear/socks (men’s) is still an issue and any donations would be much appreciated. The next team going up to Whitechapel will be on Sunday 27th September.  All donations to the Parish Centre a few days before would be great. If you miss this date, the next opportunity will be Sunday25thOctober.If you would like to volunteer to help (next year’s Rota will be available to sign up by beginning December) please contact Bernadette Clark (01628 530047).

SUMMMER FLOWERS CONTINUE!

The garden and Pigeonhouse Wood at Little Harwood, Choke Lane, Pinkneys Green are open on Monday 14^th September from 10.30am until 4.00pm under the National Gardens Scheme. This is the first ever autumn opening. Light refreshments will be served during the day, thanks to Holy Trinity Church, and there will be a plant sale in aid of Compassion in World Farming.  Admission is £3.50 for adults and free for children.  Dogs on leads are welcome. There is a pretty walk through the Wood and a magnificent view to Ascot, Windsor and beyond from the terraces (bring your binos!)

_{Fr Nick’s working week}

_{Due to the fact that Fr Nick is not with us full time it is important to let everyone know when he is working and when he isn’t. Nick will work for four and a half days a week. He will work on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays. The other half a day will be worked flexibly on either Thursday or Saturday. The important thing is that for everyone who needs to contact Nick please do so only on his working days. These arrangements will take a while to get used to, for Nick as well as for us, but it is very important that we all try to adhere to this basic plan. The Ministry Team will be monitoring how things work and if there are any changes to this pattern we will let you know. Fr Michael}

Trinity Nippers

This is our Benefice Pram Service. We meet at 11.15am at Holy Trinity every Tuesday of term time for a short service of songs, story, prayers, musical instruments and fun. We all then go to the Parish Centre, the little ones for a packed and lunch and everyone else for a cup of tea. It’s a great way to introduce very small children to church and to help them feel at home there and it’s also a great way for mum’s nannies, grandparents etc. to get to know each other. Do come along and bring your friends. It’s for any pre-school children.

Healing Eucharist

Do come along to the Healing Eucharist on Monday if you would like to – it lasts about 40 minutes and is a quiet and reflective service during which we pray for healing and wholeness for ourselves and others who have asked for our prayers. 

Cream Teas: Final Plea

On Monday 14th and Wednesday 16th  September we have the last of our lunches and  cream teas for raising much needed funds for the Church. More cakes and scones are required to keep up our reputation for outstanding value for money. These dates are the last this year so you can relax and enjoy the winter without Mary and myself making these requests! One last effort and who knows £500? in the kitty? Many thanks, Ann Howard

Welcoming Fr Nick Plant

This evening we are celebrating the arrival of Fr Nick Plant to our Benefice. He will be licensed by the Bishop of Reading at a Benefice Eucharist at 6.30pm at Holy Trinity. Do come to join in the welcome.

It is exactly a year since we changed the times of our main Sunday services. I have been hugely impressed at the way we have all adapted. Change is never easy and I know for some it was particularly difficult, but I believe our churches have responded very well indeed. Certainly the last 7 months with only three ministers in the Benefice would have been impossible without the change. A very big thank you everyone for making the change work so well. Be assured that your ministry team will continue to work regularly at both churches and Fr Nick and I will both be at nearly all our main Sunday morning services.

Communion Before Confirmation

We are running a short course for children who regularly come to church or share in our children’s work to prepare them to receive communion. We will explore the meaning of communion with the children and help them to ask any questions they may have. We will meet on 4 Saturday mornings beginning on September 12^th at 9.30am for an hour in the vestry at St John the Baptist, Cookham Dean. We hope that all children who are part of our church families at Holy Trinity and St John the Baptist who are in Key Stage 2 will come along. Please contact the office if your child is going to come or give your name and contact details to one of the churchwardens or to one of our Sunday Club/Sunbeams leaders. Thank you. 

Sunday Club and Junior Praise are back this morning, and on September 13th  we will all be in Church for a Baptism service and our first Godly Play session will be on September 20th when we will look at the circle of the Church year. Happy Holidays!Christine Taylor

_{Following on from one of our speakers at Ladies’ Group, Canon Jane Hedges from Westminster Abbey, the social committee have arranged a visit to  the Abbey on Wednesday 30 September for a Parish Prayer Pilgrimage.   Groups of up to 50 can join a Canon Steward for a pilgrim} tour which takes you around the Abbey, hearing about its history and praying in its sacred places.  The tours begin at 6.15 p.m. and end with Compline at 7.15 p.m. 

We already have names down from Ladies Group members and some PCC members but places are still available.    We will be arranging coach transport for the evening - cost to be advised depending on numbers.    If you would like to add your name/s to the list, please let Mary Purdie know (528701).  Further info regarding departure time, cost etc. will be advised as soon as known.   Please do join us for what looks like being a very interesting visit.

Thames Hospicecare 11 October

This year the very popular The Sunrise Walk is back! .We are aiming to get at least 750 walkers signed up, and raise £130,000 for the Hospice!  Why not enter a Company Team?  A great way to support Thames Hospice care, achieve a personal challenge and have fun with work colleagues and friends?  To help us get as many ladies signed up as we can, please could you forward this email with the attached e-graphic to all your friends and family and ask them to forward to all their friends and family too!! _{Meet the Bishop}

You are invited to hear the Rt Rev’d Andrew Burnham, Bishop of Ebsfleet, give a talk on his work as troubleshooter extraordinaire as one of the Church of England’s three ‘flying bishops’. The title of his talk is; ‘A Flying Bishop – Managing Diversity and Disintegration’. He is speaking at a meeting of the Berkshire Council of Christians and Jews on Thursday September 10^th at 8pm at Maidenhead Synagogue, Grenfell Lodge, Ray Park Road, Maidenhead, SL6 8QX. It will be followed by questions and refreshments. All welcome.

_{The Book Club} will meet next for a bring and share lunch on Friday, 25^th September at 12.30 at Water’s Edge, Islet Road.  The book is ‘Lullabies for Little Criminals’ by Heather O’Neil. Please let Jean Johnson (629807) if you plan attend.

SUMMER FLOWERS CONTINUE!

The garden and Pigeonhouse Wood at Little Harwood, Choke Lane, Pinkneys Green are open on Monday 14^th September from 10.30am until 4.00pm under the National Gardens Scheme. This is the first ever autumn opening. Light refreshments will be served during the day, thanks to Holy Trinity Church, and there will be a plant sale in aid of Compassion in World Farming.  Admission is £3.50 for adults and free for children.  Dogs on leads are welcome. There is a pretty walk through the Wood and a magnificent view to Ascot, Windsor and beyond from the terraces (bring your binos!) 
 

There is a group booking arranged for Fri 2nd Oct (evening) to see "Singin' in the Rain" at the Wycombe Swan Theatre. The production was recently featured in the Maidenhead Advertiser (Aug 27). If you have not already heard about the booking and would like to be included you are most welcome. I can get 15% off tickets for this performance. Please ring me on 01628 520938. Harvest Festival Bring and Share Lunch The harvest Festival at Holy Trinity is on Sunday 11 October. We felt that it would be a lovely way to celebrate our very bounteous gifts by joining together at a Bring and Share Lunch. This would take place straight after the 11a.m. Service. Please put this date in your diaries and come along.  

PAUL Do you find Paul appealing or appalling; or a bit of both?  We will be discussing him, his life, his letters, his theology and some of the problems at a five week course starting on Wednesday 23^rd September at 8pm and then on the next four Wednesdays. Wine and soft drinks will be available.  It would help if you let Charles or the Parish Office know beforehand if you plan to come.

Another Coach party approaches of approx 50 people on. Wednesday 2nd September Please let Mary Purdie know if you can offer cakes/ scones or help on that day. We usually are able to raise about £220 for Parish Centre funds.
