Farewell, Terrie

Terries_farewell_service_at_holy__2During our 1830hs Eucharist Service on 27th January we said farewell to Terrie, who will soon be taking up her role as non-stipendiary priest in the parish of St Luke’s, Maidenhead.

This was an opportunity to give thanks for all that Terrie has given us over many years and to send her off with our love and blessings.

You can see photos of this service here.

Views of the Christmas Workshop and Christingle Service

On Saturday we had a fantastic Christmas Workshop in the Parish Centre and about 60 children came Pict0006_5 along to join in the fun. Then on Sunday afternoon we had our Christingle Service at Holy Trinity.

Fr Michael took some photographs to remind everyone that photographs only capture a moment in time - while it's good to look back at photographs we have to remember that once a photograph has been taken we change, everything changes. Pict0007_2

We should not approach Christmas like looking at lovely old photographs, Christmas is not just about looking back at a really important thing that happened in a moment of time ages ago - it is about being reminded that the baby Jesus grew up to be a man who said some very important and challenging things -  he called us to love each other and to share the good things we have.

Christmas is not just about the birth of Jesus, it is about us remembering the things he said and taught and making sure that we are living and loving the way he did.Pict0009

Cookham bellringers triumph!

It's official: The bellringers of Holy Trinity are the best in Berkshire (as if you needed telling)!Cookham_bellringers_win_2007_005

The proof came when they won the prestigious Lorna Newton Bellringers cup, which is awarded to the best tower in the regional striking competition, featuring the towers of East Berkshire and South Bucks.

The competition was held at Winkfield on Saturday 13th October and Cookham, ringing last, beat off stiff opposition from the ringers of Beaconsfield, Lane End, Bray and Chesham, to name but a few. The annual test of skill is a knockout competition that involves ringing perfect rounds and 120 changes on 6 bells.

The winning team featured tower Captain Marcia Dieppe, Janet Gillard, Andrew Mckerlie, Timmy Mallett, Claire Fisher and Mandy Salter.

Ever wondered what the view is like from the top of the tower at Holy Trinity?

On a beautiful sunny morning in June, photographer Brian Eade from Oxford came to take photos for his new book on the Thames.Church_tower_june_2007_006

Comparing the view with a shot from 1870s it's surprising to see how similar it is. Only the boatyard on the Bourne End bank is new, and the trees on the far side of the meadow have grown a lot too, but Hedsor church is still a highlight and the houses on the Cookham riverbank are familiar (and in better repair!)

Brian brought a selection of cameras and waited until the morning mist had burned off before taking shots of the river and admiring the views of the village from Cookham's highest building.

Brian's book of photos of the River Thames including the shots he took this week will be published in 2008.

You can see some photos in our photo album here or at this link on Cookham.com.

It's like buses!

You wait ages and then suddenly loads come along at once.

We've just updated some of the photo albums to show you all the things that have been going on at Holy Trinity in the last few days.

The choir have been taking part in special candlelit services, the most recent being "Burning the Handel at both ends". Photos of them preparing can be found here.

Junior bell ringers Billy Mallett and Alex McKenzie were awarded certificates of achievement during the 9.30am service. There's a photo here.

And some photos from the 9.30am service can be found here.
