Farewell, Terrie

Terries_farewell_service_at_holy__2During our 1830hs Eucharist Service on 27th January we said farewell to Terrie, who will soon be taking up her role as non-stipendiary priest in the parish of St Luke’s, Maidenhead.

This was an opportunity to give thanks for all that Terrie has given us over many years and to send her off with our love and blessings.

You can see photos of this service here.

Holy Week and Easter

Holy Week is the last week of Lent and begins today. From the earliest years of the Church this special week has been used by Christians to re-enact, relive, and participate in the passion of Jesus Christ.

At Holy Trinity and St John Baptist we are marking the week with services and times of prayer and reflection to help us be part of this.

The Watch of Prayeron Maundy Thursday evening is split into 30-minute sections. If you would like to share in the Watch, please sign the list at the back of church so that we know the vigil will be kept until midnight.

Ash Wednesday this week

1000hrs   Holy Communion and Ashing at St John the Baptist, Cookham Dean

2000hrs   Sung Eucharist and Ashing at Holy Trinity

Ash Wednesday marks the threshold of Lent and is one of the most important days in the Church’s calendar. At special Services, worshippers are marked on their foreheads with ashes as a symbol of mortality and sorrow for sin. The ashes are made by burning palm crosses from last year’s Palm Sunday processions. Why not set some time aside to come and share this special time.

If you are at work on Wednesday, most city and town centre churches will have lunchtime services. Lent is a good time to think of a discipline for ourselves – perhaps giving something up or doing something new and positive and taking some time to reflect. Let’s all use this season of Lent to assess how we are doing in our calling to be disciples of Jesus.

Our new Pattern of Services

From Advent Sunday (28 November) our new pattern of Services at St John the Baptist and Holy Trinity will begin. The revised range of Services will offer a variety of opportunities to worship God and will make good use of our two churches and our ministry resources. A leaflet setting out this new pattern is now available for you to stick to your fridge door. You can pick one up at the back of either church or download one (Word document, 73kb) by clicking here.
